About the differences between the four Intuos4 Models:

In order to make a compact Intuos4, the Small model of this series has 6 ExpressKeys instead of 8 and no illuminated ExpressKey Display on the tablet. Intuos4 Small only has one USB port but the two included cables are angled for better cable positioning.

While Intuos4 M and L have 2 USB ports to accommodate left or right handed configurations, the USB cable on the Intuos4 XL is NOT detachable. However, its integrated cable can be easily positioned following cable paths underneath the Intuos4 tablet for ambidexterity.
